Its pretty hard to describe this, and witnessing it was just out of this world.
And also it is extremely rare that the northern lights has so much red-shift to it.

Sorry for posting so much lately, but I could not resist to upload this one, its just the strongest streak of aurora I have ever seen.

Post processing: Contrast +30, shadows -28, whites -12, blacks -5, Clarity +25, noise reduction +25, sharpening +10.
Added unsharp mask for the mountains in the background in photoshop.

This is truly an amazing photograph, you have captured the true beauty of the aurora borealis [northern lights] . Its very crisp and clear not only did the northern lights take my breath away but the lights bellow as well. You have also shot the busy towns and city's on the mountains. although I love this photo I would also crop it from the bottom. I can see the land you took it on and I think it would be better without. However I love this photo and cant wait for your next lovely art piece. sincerely pixiepop15. PS this is my first critique.

Well, this is my very first critique. This image has lost me for words. Everything about it is absolutely stunning. I love the angle that you took it at, and also the scenery is spot on, amazing. Of course you made this so much better by using a high resolution camera. You can see every little detail. You can see every star in the sky! I love this, I love this, I love this. I would have loved to be you, the photographer and have seen this personally. It must have been even more breath-taking. I'm so glad you took this image to share with the rest of us!

This is totally awesome. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to experience this in person! The photograph is amazing with the town lights and reflection and aurora itself is just mind-numbingly beautiful!
