Ominous by Trichardsen Ominous by Trichardsen

Wasn´t happy about the car coming in at first but with the shape of the aurora it kind made up for a cool shot in the end. :)
Hope you like it.

And if you don´t get the "ominous" part, think Pac-Man ;)

This picture takes me back to the winter nights I love so much with a sense of magic. There is no such beauty as the northern lights.

Most of this kind of photos are all about colors and elusive ethereal shapes. Here, the colors follow the classical harmonious pattern of violet and bluish green, and there is a subtle gradient in their hues that pleasantly enrich the color scheme.
The sky is divided in two almost equal halves by the two different colors which gives me the feeling of opposing cosmic forces - as if you can see their silent battle, hinted by the rays of light and the pattern of the stars. This, along with the numerous stars, can completely justify the seemingly off composition, in which the land is hardly visible. Finally, the bright light in the lower corner - although undesired by the author - also melds in the composition since it aligns with the brightest trail of stars in the sky.

From the technical point of view, there is little I can add. Most of the picture is taken up by pure colors leaving little space for technical issues, as long as the exposure is correct. The sky is fairly clear - there is some visible noise, but no color distortions, which leaves me with a good impression.

It's worth noting that the earth is subtly divided by the same colors as the sky. This creates unison in the picture. And the sky-centered composition could conceal an allusion - how tiny and insignificant is our planet before the power of the Universe.

Oh, this is beautiful! I went to Iceland and Greenland this year, but neither place had such intense, lovely lights. I hope someday I'll be able to go further north and see these for myself.

Thank you very much. :)

If you go further than 68degrees north the odds increase drasticly for seeing amazing aurora displays. :)
